1. Dust-Coated Condenser Coils

Located on the back or underneath behind the toe grille, condenser coils dissipate heat extracted from the refrigerator cabinet. When pet hair and household dust coat these coils, thermal exchange efficiency plummets. The compressor runs continuously, overheats, and trips its thermal overload switch. Vacuuming coils with a brush attachment every 6 months resolves this issue.

2. Failed Evaporator Fan Motor

The evaporator fan circulates cold air generated at the cooling coils throughout the freezer and refrigerator compartments. If the freezer remains cold but the fresh food section is warm, listen for the fan inside the freezer cavity. If it squeals, clicks, or does not spin when the door switch is depressed, the motor bearing or winding has failed.

3. Defrost System Failure (Coil Frosting)
